The integration of digital technologies in higher education and its impact on reducing inequalities: literature review
Abstract
This article presents a literature review on the integration of digital technologies in higher education and its impact on social inequalities, with a particular focus on access to education and equal opportunities. Digital technologies in education offer new opportunities for learners, enabling them to access a diversity of educational content and resources. However, unequal access to these technologies can reinforce or even accentuate existing social inequalities, particularly for vulnerable populations. Digital tools such as e-learning platforms, virtual libraries and open educational resources (OER) offer unprecedented opportunities for students from all socio-economic backgrounds, including those living in remote areas. These technologies make it possible to overcome traditional barriers, whether geographical, economic or social, facilitating more inclusive and equitable learning. In addition, innovative pedagogical approaches, made possible by digital technology, enable a more personalized approach to teaching. The emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) in education adds a further dimension to digital challenges and opportunities. AI-based systems, such as intelligent virtual tutors, automated assessment tools and adaptive learning systems, enable better adaptation to learners' specific needs and help enhance their educational experience. This research aims to explore the complex interactions between education, economic growth and the integration of information and communication technologies (ICT). The aim is to analyze how digital technology can be used as a lever to reduce social inequalities, improve access to quality education and promote a more equitable and inclusive society.
