Abstract

The main question focuses on the major challenges faced by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Extreme North Region. The article employs a narrative approach, combining an analysis of the SME environment with case studies on financing experiences. This method provides a holistic overview of the challenges and financing solutions encountered by SMEs in the region. It highlights the divergences between financing strategies proposed by the public authorities and those of civil society organizations, often underscoring the limited adaptability of strategies to the specific needs of SMEs. This work emphasizes the importance of considering the specificities of SMEs in local and national economic planning, with an emphasis on the adaptability of financing strategies to effectively address their needs. The study aims to present the major challenges of small and medium-sized enterprises in the Extreme North Region. It conducts an analysis of the SME environment and presents financing experiences of SMEs in the Extreme North Region (case studies). The presentation of some financing strategies proposed by public authorities shows that they are often not adapted to the problems of SMEs. Alternative expertise proposed by civil society organizations and microfinance institutions seems to be better suited to the problems of SMEs. The issue of small and medium-sized enterprises should be taken into account in local planning through communal development plans and at the regional and national levels in the development plans of regions and the 2030 national development strategy. The reflection also aligns with the national development policy in its third pillar on the structuring of the local economy and human capital. This pillar addresses the issue of the structural transformation of the national economy.
